Pastoral Care at Clayesmore Prep

At Clayesmore Prep, pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that a child who feels safe, happy, and supported will thrive both academically and personally. Whether they are boarders or day pupils, every child is valued as an individual and surrounded by a strong network of care.

A Supportive Boarding Community

Boarding at Clayesmore Prep offers more than a place to live—it provides a nurturing environment where children are truly known and understood. Houseparents, their assistants, and matrons work closely with pupils, offering guidance and encouragement through the challenges of growing up. This family-style approach helps children develop confidence, resilience, and independence in a safe setting.

Health & Wellbeing

Our Health and Wellbeing Centre, together with trained counsellors and our school Chaplain, play a vital role in ensuring children feel supported both physically and emotionally. Alongside this, academic tutors, TLC staff, sports coaches and music teachers all contribute to a joined-up approach to pastoral care, ensuring pupils feel secure, valued, and balanced in all areas of school life.

Listening to Every Child

We believe the student voice is central to good pastoral care. Through house and school councils, as well as student committees, children are encouraged to share their views and help shape the community they are part of. This sense of involvement gives them ownership and helps foster responsibility, respect, and belonging.

Concerns are always taken seriously, and our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) works alongside the Head, staff, and parents to ensure every child’s welfare remains the top priority.
