Manor House is located in the main school building and provides a comfortable, modern home for boys aged 13 to 18. The boarding areas include a mix of single and shared rooms, and the house is fully integrated with Clayesmore's broader campus facilities. Communal spaces allow for both quiet study and relaxation, and the house retains a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Manor House is home to around 45 boys, combining both full boarders and day pupils. The community is supportive and inclusive, with strong inter-year friendships and a genuine sense of camaraderie. Day pupils are an active part of the house and participate fully in house life.
The ethos of Manor House centres around respect, independence, and kindness. Boys are encouraged to take responsibility for themselves and each other, developing maturity, resilience, and leadership as they progress through the school.
Mr Chris Burton (cburton@clayesmore.com)
Mr Burton is a Design and Technology teacher. He lives in the house and provides supportive, structured pastoral care.
Mr Robbie Winearls (rwinearls@clayesmore.com)
Mr Winearls is a Physics teacher and one of the Year 10 academic tutors. He is on evening duty on Tuesdays and Fridays, and some weekends.
The house is also supported by academic tutors and evening staff. Mr Dan Conway (Head of Boys’ Games) is on duty Wednesday evenings, and Mrs Holly Burton is on duty on Thursday evenings.
Mrs Claire Thring (manormatron@clayesmore.com)
Mrs Thring looks after the daily needs of the boys, from travel plans and health matters to general well-being. She liaises with the household team and the Health & Wellbeing Centre and handles lost property.
The dedicated housekeeping team maintains the cleanliness and order of the house. They also manage laundry for boarders, placing clean items into lockers.
Senior boys serve as house prefects, helping to uphold the house ethos and support younger pupils. Peer mentoring plays a key role in helping new joiners settle in.
Day boys are fully involved in Manor House life. They are allocated a personal space in the house, take part in all house activities, and follow similar routines to boarders. Combination padlocks are recommended for securing personal belongings.
Boys start out in shared rooms and may move to singles as they progress. Respect for personal space and shared responsibility for communal areas are emphasised. Dorm rooms are private and entered by invitation only.
Each boy is expected to look after his room, contribute to house life, and carry out his duties responsibly. Lockable drawers are provided.
Manor House weekends offer a balance of downtime and activity. Options include movie nights, sports, gym sessions, and off-site trips. Boys are encouraged to relax, recharge, or explore hobbies.
The Manor House pastoral team includes the Houseparent, Assistant Houseparent, Matron, academic tutors, and the 24/7 Health & Wellbeing Centre. Access to counselling and pastoral staff is available when needed.
Birthdays are celebrated in-house with cake and a low-key celebration. Parents may send treats, and all arrangements should be made via the Matron. No parties on school nights.
