Our Prep pupils have been enjoying their first LEX Stage 1 sailing session with Rockley at Rockley Point, and what an exciting first day they had!
The conditions were certainly challenging, with gusty winds and strong weather conditions, but the pupils rose to the challenge and surpassed all expectations on the water. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm, confidence and determination as they got to grips with sailing for the first time.
During their morning session, the pupils learnt how to rig their boats, as well as the basics of sailing and changing direction, including how to tack. Despite the challenging conditions, they made great progress and thoroughly enjoyed their time on the water.
In the afternoon, the group headed indoors for some classroom-based learning, where they learnt about the different points of sail and developed their understanding of the skills they had been practising earlier in the day.
The pupils have two more sessions with Rockley to look forward to, where they will continue to build their sailing skills and confidence. Hopefully, the next sessions will bring some more favourable weather conditions!
