We are delighted to congratulate Ataea (Year 12) on receiving a Commendation in this year’s Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators, run by The Queen’s College, University of Oxford.
This highly respected national competition attracted over 25,000 students from across the country, with more than 5,400 entries assessed by judges. To be awarded a commendation in such a competitive field is a remarkable achievement and reflects Ataea’s outstanding linguistic ability, creativity and dedication to her studies. Her certificate is due to arrive shortly, and we look forward to presenting it in recognition of this excellent success.
Participants were challenged to go beyond literal translation, adapting fiction, poetry, memoirs and folktales while capturing tone, emotion and cultural nuance. The judges commented on the exceptional quality of entries this year, noting how closely contested the final stages were.
We are also proud of Lizzy (Year 12), Harry (Year 13) and Caitlin (Year 13), whose translations were of a very high standard and who each received participation certificates in recognition of their excellent work and commitment.
These achievements reflect the strength and ambition of our linguists at Clayesmore, and we look forward to seeing their continued success in the future.
