Year 9 Experience Day

On Monday, we were delighted to welcome Year 8 pupils from our Prep School and several other local prep schools to our Senior School for a fantastic Year 9 Experience Day.

The day gave our visitors the opportunity to step into Senior School life, meet some of our teachers and experience a range of exciting and practical subjects. With a busy programme planned, there was plenty for everyone to get involved with, and it was wonderful to see the pupils embracing each activity with enthusiasm and curiosity.

Throughout the day, pupils had the chance to experience Science, Cookery, Design Technology and Drama, giving them a taste of the variety of opportunities available as they move into their senior years.

In Science, pupils got hands-on with Bunsen burners as they experimented with heating different metals and observed the different colours produced by the flames. The practical activity was a great introduction to the exciting experiments they can expect to encounter in the Senior School science labs.

Our Cookery session gave pupils the opportunity to develop their culinary skills as they made delicious calzones. Working together and getting stuck into the practical side of cooking, they enjoyed creating their own dishes and experiencing the creativity and independence that comes with working in the kitchen.

In Design Technology, pupils explored both creativity and practical skills as they designed and made their own wood and glass keyrings. They were able to work with different materials and see their ideas develop into a finished product that they could take away with them at the end of the session.

The Drama sessions offered a chance to explore both performance and the technical side of theatre. Pupils experienced a mixture of stage performance and stage technology, giving them an insight into the many different roles that contribute to putting on a successful production. There was plenty of creativity, collaboration and enthusiasm throughout the sessions.

At lunchtime, everyone came together to enjoy lunch as a group. This provided a lovely opportunity for the pupils to relax, chat and get to know one another, helping them to experience another important part of Senior School life and the sense of community that comes with it.

The afternoon brought a change of pace, with the pupils heading outside to take part in a variety of sporting activities. It was a great way to round off a busy day, with plenty of teamwork, energy and friendly competition on display. The pupils embraced the activities enthusiastically and enjoyed the opportunity to get active together.

The Experience Day was a wonderful opportunity for our Year 8 visitors to discover what life at Senior School can offer and to experience a variety of subjects and activities in a practical and engaging way. The pupils were able to experience just some of the exciting opportunities that await them in Year 9.

We hope all of our visitors had a fantastic day and enjoyed trying something new, meeting new people and getting a feel for life in the Senior School. A big thank you to all the staff and pupils who helped make the day such a success.
