Year 12 Photography students enjoyed an inspiring and informative visit to Lacock Abbey and the Fox Talbot Museum, where they had the opportunity to explore both the history of photography and contemporary photographic practice.
Students discovered the pioneering work of William Henry Fox Talbot, one of the key figures in the development of early photography, and learned more about how photographic processes have evolved over time. They also viewed the famous Oriel Window at Lacock Abbey, the subject of one of the earliest photographic negatives, helping to bring the history of photography to life.
Alongside exploring the Abbey and museum, students had the opportunity to take photographs within the historic building and its beautiful grounds, experimenting with composition, light and perspective. They also visited the final exhibition by renowned contemporary photographer Martin Parr, giving them the chance to see how photography can be used to document people, places and everyday life.
The visit was a fantastic opportunity for our new photographers to experience photography first-hand, inspiring them to consider both its rich history and its continuing relevance as a contemporary art form.
