And this is exactly what happened on the evening of 6 October, when finalists Jennifer A (Y7) and Abigail J (Y10) attended the presentation evening of the Blandford Rotary Short Story Competition, held at the Blandford Parish Centre. Both girls read their stories to the gathered audience which consisted predominantly of adults. They read expressively and with conviction, bringing their stories to life and taking the audience with them.

Jennifer’s story, based on the recent terror attacks, was a heart-wrenching tale of love and loss, one which ended with a message of hope. Abigail’s story took music as its central theme, exploring a world in which silence has become the norm and music is taboo. Many listeners commented on the quality of these stories. Jennifer was delighted to be named as runner-up with her story ‘Hope’.
