Year 5 get inside Georgian life in Blandford
Clayesmore Prep’s Head of History, Mrs Isabel Rose writes:
Year 5 visited two local museums on Monday 9 October. As our history topic is the Georgians, it seemed a waste not to visit our local town. Blandford Forum contains some of the most beautiful Georgian buildings in the county as it was restored after a disastrous fire during the reign of George II.
We listened to an interesting talk about Georgian day and evening wear at the costume museum and the children had a go at some quilting. At the town museum we found out about the Blandford fire and handled local Georgian artefacts. The fire started at what is now the Kings Arms pub in Blandford so we had a short walk around the town to see that building and others built by the Bastard brothers (who restored most of the town after the fire).
