On World Book Day, the pages of the Prep School fell open and out stepped an array of characters to spend a day at school. Reading for pleasure is at the very centre of our story here at Clayesmore Prep, and never was this truer than on the International Day of the Book.

Tuesday saw the much-anticipated return of Gillian Cross to work with Year 5. The children had developed their shrinking characters further and were eager for Gillian to help them bring them to life. This session focussed on writing apt dialogue to capture characters placed in an extreme situation. Then, taking on the mantle of a specific character from their script, they learned the dialogue in record time, rehearsed and performed the script creatively and with great confidence.

On 6 February, our Patron of Reading & Writing, the author Gillian Cross, was back to continue our exciting project with Year 5. This session was all about creating authentic characters. She arrived with intricate strings of paper figures – templates for the children’s imaginations.
