A symphony of sound at the SATIPS Orchestral Day

Prep School Director of Music, Mr James Smith, reviews a great day of musical fun:

“This Tuesday, the Senior Orchestra made its annual visit to Bryanston School to join some 100 children from 10 other prep schools for the SATIPS Orchestral Day. As in previous years, Clayesmore Prep School was strongly represented across all four families of musical instruments.

The children had practised a full orchestral piece beforehand, which was also rehearsed during the day, ready to perform in a concert in the evening. Although they were playing for much longer than they usually do at school, all agreed that they had enjoyed themselves whilst gaining valuable orchestral experience at a young age.

The chosen piece was Shackelford Banks (Tale of West Mustangs) – a very energetic and lively piece, with a distinctive wild-west feel about it.

This was followed by different sections of the orchestra performing their own piece, as follows:

Saxophone Group – Someone to Watch Over You Brass Group – Red Folk Suite String Group – Palladio Wind Group – All Through the Night Percussion Group – Fast Let Loose

Most of the day was spent in these sections, rehearsing separately, before finally coming together for a full rehearsal and concert in the Elder Concert Hall to finish the day off in style.”
