Summer Music Extravaganza sees a year of music-making out with a bang!
With pieces ranging from the Choral (Parry’s I Was Glad), to Coldplay (Viva la Vida) via Elgar and the traditional refrains of the Londonderry Air, there were ensembles galore, including the Orchestra, Glee Club, Flute and Dragon Drummers. It was evident that music-making remains a real strength at the Prep School, in a year which also saw its Chamber Music Group crowned National Champions at the Pro-Corda finals in March. There were some stunning solo performances from pupil, staff and parent vocalists, and a smattering of audience participation and dancing, to boot.
Summing up the concert, Head of Prep Mr Dunlop thanked Prep Director of Music, Mr James Smith, for all his hard work in making the evening such a fantastic event. He had counted over 150 pupil performers, all keen to take part because music was fun! A retiring collection was held in aid of the Grenfell Tower Fund, raising £291.
Mr Smith lauded the Musical Extravaganza as “without doubt the best we have seen in many years, owing to the high standard of musicianship and variety of music showcased in one concert”.
Bravo to all and, as the staff and parent choir sang, “Thank Clayesmore for the Music”.
