Speech Day 2018
Speech Day is always a bittersweet occasion, celebrating the myriad successes of the past year, but at the same time bidding farewell (for now at least) to those who are leaving Clayesmore. The day’s events began with the Valedictory Service, led by Mr West with readings by the Head, the Head Boy, and the Head Girl. It is always an emotional event, where the school hymn is sung, and leavers are charged to, “Work hard in all that you do, remembering with thanksgiving, joy and gratitude the benefits that your time in this school have brought upon you”. Following the Service, parents and pupils enjoyed drinks on the lawn and lunch, before heading to the marquee accompanied by the sounds of the school Pipe Band and the Clayesatonix.
Then it was time for the speeches and prize-giving. A chance to relive the highlights of the past year through pupil presentations, all led expertly by the Head Boy and Head Girl. Rounding off the formal part of the day, Mrs Thomson reflected on how different the world was today for our Year 13 students, in comparison to when they were born, in 1999 and 2000.
Congratulations to all prize-winners and those who played a part in the day’s events.
