South West Schools Cross Country
05/02/2018

Sporting Events Manager, Mr Chris Humpage, reports on Clayesmorians’ results at the regional round of the English Schools Cross Country series:
“The South West Schools Championships took place this weekend at Stover School in Newton Abbot. Clayesmore had seven pupils representing Dorset at the Championships – the highest of any school in the County. The recent rain meant that conditions were muddy and heavy all the way round the course, which made running very hard-going, especially with the addition of a steep hill each lap. Each of the seven counties in the South West Region send their best ten runners, from which they pick their best eight for the English Schools Championships later in March.
Clayesmore’s results:
Category | Pupil | Year | SW placing | Dorset placing |
Intermediate Girls | Amy | 11 | 17th | 2nd |
Intermediate Boys | Conor | 11 | 49th | 5th |
Senior Girls | Elsa | 12 | 55th | 7th |
Senior Boys | Alex | 12 | 35th | 2nd |
Senior Boys | Angus | 12 | 51st | 5th |
Senior Boys | Ed | 13 | 60th | 7th |
“Our only disappointment of the day was with our Junior Boys runner, Josh (Y9), who had high hopes of a top three finish but suffered a back strain whilst in 3rd place and was unable to finish the course. Amy, Alex, Conor and Josh have already gained selection for the English Schools Championships, and our fingers are crossed in the hope that Angus, Ed and Elsa will also be selected as reserves for the National Championships.
“Congratulations to all of our runners.”
