Prep swimmers’ strong performance at the IAPS National Finals
Clayesmore’s Director of Swimming, Mrs Ali Pickford, reports from an exciting IAPS National Swimming Finals last weekend:
“Four Prep School pupils qualified for the National Finals and competed at the London Aquatic Centre on Saturday 9 June. This was the first time that the Finals have been held at the Olympic pool and it was a wonderful experience for our pupils to swim at such an iconic venue.
“Charlie (Y6) competed in the morning in the U11 Boys 50 metres front crawl. He swam a personal best time in the heats and qualified for the finals. Charlie came 10th overall and should be very proud of his performance.
“The girls had a much later start time so enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere of the Olympic Park earlier in the day.
“Georgia (Y5) competed first for the girls in the U10 25 metres breaststroke. In the heat she swam a personal best time and qualified for the finals coming 6th overall. Georgia also broke her own school record!
“Swimming her number one stroke Lottie (Y6) competed in the U11 50 metres backstroke. She swam a good 50m but with a slightly slower time than she expected. Lottie came 14th overall and should be proud her performance on the day.
“Evie (Y8) was an excellent Captain on the day, supporting the team and coaches on poolside! She swam in the heats for the U13 50 metres breaststroke and came 18th overall.
This is the National Finals with only the best swimmers in the country qualifying, so our team should be very proud of their overall places.”
