Prep School musicians turn up the heat on Music Mini-Tour to London
Prep School Director of Music, Mr Smith reports:
“On Friday 6 July at 1pm, as the mercury hit 32 degrees in central London, the talented prep school choristers, jazz band and chamber music group entertained an appreciative audience at a well attended concert in St. Paul’s Church (formerly known as the Actor’s Church), in Covent Garden. It was wonderful to see so many Clayesmore families in the audience, as well as members of the public who had stepped inside to escape the oppressive heat whilst on their lunch break. Attending the pre-concert rehearsal, to the amusement of the staff (though not the children, who didn’t have a clue who he was), was Russ Abbott, who was most complimentary about the standard of performance.
As well as giving a concert, the children enjoyed a lovely meal at Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant, originally inspired by the 1994 film Forrest Gump, were transported on a magic carpet to a faraway land in the West End spectacle that is Disney’s Aladdin (currently starring Old Clayesmorian, Kevin Jones), relaxed on a cruise on the River Thames between Tower & Westminster Bridges and took a flight on the Coca Cola London Eye to round off a truly memorable tour.
My thanks to the accompanying staff – Mrs Coplan, Mrs Reach, Mr Rigby and Mr Walker – whose help and support, both musical and pastoral, ensured that the children were able to achieve great things and enjoy themselves throughout the tour.
Many thanks to all those who attended the concert. If you could not or would like to listen to it again, please find here the recording which I hope you enjoy.”
