Prep House Music – here we go again!
With the success of this summer’s hit movie, Mamma Mia – Here We Go Again, it seemed the obvious choice for a musical from which to perform songs, as the ever popular House Music Competition took place in the Sports Centre just prior to half term. It was once again, packed with parents and relatives who came to celebrate what has become an important snapshot of musical life at Clayesmore Prep.
The adjudicator this year was Helen Hobson, who has played the role of Donna in Mamma Mia – the Musical on and off for the past 14 years in the West End and in touring international and UK productions.
First, each house performed their own rendition of a verse and chorus from Thank You For The Music, before the house songs. Staff and children had been meeting behind closed doors, setting aside a lot of time for the past three weeks to perfect a song, which had been chosen at random from a selection of songs from this year’s theme. Rosses sang Dancing Queen, Edwards-Stuarts performed Waterloo, Everetts entertained us with Super Trouper, while Seddons gave the final performance of the afternoon with Mamma Mia.
To complement the four house performances, Nursery and Pre-Prep performed Money, Money, Money with a sublime arrangement, great solos and choreography.
Our adjudicator, Helen, treated the audience to two super performances. She started with the poignant Slipping Through My Fingers and, before giving her verdict, performed one of her most iconic songs from the musical, The Winner Takes It All.
In the end, Helen decided that this year’s winners should be Seddons house.
All the staff and children of the Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep School displayed great collaboration, creativity, courage, support and enthusiasm leading up to, and during, the competition. It was once again a superb show of good sportsmanship, for which all the children are to be especially congratulated. Thanks also to our special guest, Helen Hobson, for her fabulous performances, accurate judgement and constructive comments throughout the competition.
