The Prep was alive with the Sound of Music
… and with the sounds of many excited children performing songs from the musical, The Sound of Music. Clayesmore Prep Director of Music, Mr James Smith, describes our ever popular House Music Competition – the first inter-house event of the school year:
Just prior to half term, the sports hall was once again packed with parents and relatives who came to watch us celebrate what has become an important snapshot of musical life here at Clayesmore Prep.
We were joined this year by adjudicator Neil McDermott whose West End credits include Rolf in The Sound of Music (London Palladium), Lord Farquaad in Shrek The Musical (Theatre Royal Drury Lane) and Chief Weasel in Wind in the Willows (London Palladium), among many others.
Firstly, it was our House Singing Class which also included a performance by the Nursery and Pre-Prep children and staff. Both staff and children had been meeting behind closed doors, setting aside a lot of time for the past three weeks to perfect a song which had been chosen at random from a selection of songs from this year’s theme.
Seddons sang The Sound of Music, Everetts entertained us with The Lonely Goatherd, Edwards-Stuarts performed My Favourite Things, while Rosses gave the final performance of the afternoon with the beautiful ballad, Edelweiss.
To complement the four house performances, Nursery and Pre-Prep performed the song, Do-Re-Mi, with a very convincing performance from our very own “Maria”!
Each house then performed their own rendition of Climb Every Mountain, before Neil gave his verdict.
In the end, Neil decided that this year’s winners should be both Everetts and Rosses houses.
I would like to say a huge thankyou to all the staff and children of the Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep School for all their collaboration, support and enthusiasm leading up to and during the competition itself. A superb show of good sportsmanship was shown during the whole competition and all the children are to be especially congratulated for that.
Here’s to next year!!
