Prep Music in the month of May

It’s been a busy month of music in the Prep School…

Piano Showcase events

Over the past two weeks, we have heard from a large number of piano pupils in both the Junior and Senior years in our piano showcase events. It has been great to hear so many talented pupils perform a range of works from across the piano repertoire. They should all be congratulated on their fine performances. Well done to Cecilia Mc, Jovin M, Annabel T, Iris K-W, Miller S, Savannah G, Pip R, Alice M, Seth R, Georgia C, Edward N, Cody R, Ned C, Wilf T, Jaydan J, Victor K-W, Izzy B, William B, Olivia B, Magnus Mc, Olivia K, George M, Georgie B, Jenny A, Oliver W, Reece W, Lareina G, Lara M and Xander C.

Senior Musicians’ Recital

For our first Music in the Month of May recital, ten top musicians from Year Seven and Eight performed for an appreciative audience in a superb recital on Thursday 16th May in the de Selincourt Room.

Olivia, George, Ben, Megan, Reece, Jenny, Xander, Ben, Briac and Lara all gave fine performances of difficult repertoire in a variety of styles which, considering that this was the first time some of them had performed a solo repertoire in public, was quite an achievement.

Our thanks go to them for all that they have contributed to the musical life at Clayesmore Prep School over the past year and to their teachers and parents, for preparing and supporting them for what was a superb evening of music-making.

Boogie-Woogie Night

On Thursday 23rd May, The Social was filled with the sounds of jazz, blues and boogie-woogie in our annual tribute to this unique genre of music.

The concert began with a performance by Julian Phillips (internationally acclaimed boogie-woogie pianist) & singer, Izi Onslow, who performed again at the end with impromptu solos from some of our pupils. Julian also played the accordion which provided a different flavour to our concert. It was also a bonus that the Jazz Band were able to perform which helped to spice up the evening.

Congratulations go to our pupils who played so well and provided us all with an entertaining programme. They were:

Pip, Annabel, Alice, Sophie, Wilf, Ned, Cody, Issy, William, George, Olivia, Lareina & Ben (piano);

Elodie, Alex, Lucy & Megan (vocal)

Lottie, Mr Hind (saxophone); Olivia, Ben, Olly (trumpet); Joseph (trombone); Ben (guitar); Reece (drums); George & Olivia (vocal); Mrs Coplan (piano); Mr Walker (bass).

At the end of the evening, Mr Smith summed it up brilliantly by saying, “One of our best Boogie-Woogie nights to date. Well done to all who performed. Combined with performances from Julian, it made for a truly memorable evening.”

Here’s to next year!
