Prep Pro-Corda group progress to the semi-finals
The Clayesmore Prep School Chamber Music Group have sailed through the qualifying round of the Pro Corda National Chamber Music Festival for the eleventh consecutive year, held in late January at Godolphin School. They received some super comments from Anita Strevens, the adjudicator, who congratulated them on a “flamboyant performance”, and have worked incredibly hard since September to be able to perform the piece to a competition standard.
This year, the school entered an ensemble, coached by Mrs Judy Coplan, which participated in the under 12 age category. The group performed an arrangement of St. Louis Blues, arranged by Jerome Naulais, and featured Charlie H (oboe), Olivia K & Emily D, (trumpet), Joseph H (trombone), William B, (piano) and Misha L & Harriet R (percussion).
Prior to their qualifying round, the group received some extra coaching with a masterclass from professional musician, Mr Colin Howard. His wonderful words of wisdom were noted and were incorporated into the preparation for the first round.
Clayesmore has a strong history in the festival, winning in 2017 and receiving the coveted Founder’s Trophy in 2018. We wish the group and their coach, Mrs Judy Coplan, every success in this year’s competition.
We wish them all the best in the next round of the competition, which will be held on 4 March at Godolphin School.
