Old Clayesmorian shortlisted for prestigious award

Charles (Manor 2006) works as a portrait painter and we were delighted to hear that he has been shortlisted to exhibit in the BP Portrait Award for the second time.  The BP Portrait Award is the most highly regarded portrait prize in the world with only 48 works chosen from the 2,000 entries from 69 countries this year.

He previously exhibited in the BP Award at the National Portrait Gallery, London, with a portrait of politician Harriet Harman in 2016.  This year’s portrait is of Sharmadean Reid MBE and you can visit the work on the NPG website here.

Working largely to commission in New York and London, sitters also include the world record hurdler Colin Jackson and footballer Roy Bentley.  Charles is currently painting the ambassador and ex-football player for Manchester City, Mike Summerbee.

“I have tremendously fond memories of working in the art room at Clayesmore and it certainly had an impact on my career” said Charles.

Best of luck Charles, we’re very proud of you!
