Music for summer evenings – Café Mikado and Hampers & Champers
The Music department have provided two fantastic end of year concerts in recent weeks, Café Mikado and the ever popular Hampers & Champers picnic concert.
An audience of parents and friends were transported to the town of Titipu when Clayesmore’s senior musicians performed an abridged version of the Gilbert and Sullivan classic, the Mikado. Conducted by vocal teacher, Mrs Goodman, with added instrumental pieces performed by the school’s Horn Quartet and Wind Quintet, the atmosphere in the marquee was convivial as the audience tucked into fabulous platters provided by the Friends of Clayesmore. There were some outstanding performances from pupils from all year groups, not to mention a fabulous cameo by Dr Bragg as Katisha. Thank you to the Music department for another wonderful concert, and to the Friends of Clayesmore for their help with the event.
Hampers & Champers
As is customary on the last Wednesday of term, the South Lawns of the Main House resembled Glyndebourne, with fantastic picnic spreads laid on to accompany some wonderful music provided by a host of Clayesmore’s musical groups ranging from the Concert Band to the Pipe Band and Barbershop Group. With music ranging from Cold Play to Kalliloe, and a little bit of Match of the Day thrown in for good measure, the swallows flew about overhead, amid the gentle percussion of clicking glasses and popping corks. A member of the audience commented that the event had been, “just magical”, adding that the musicians had performed “brilliantly, amazingly well”. Here, here, and thank you to the music department for wrapping up the year in such style. We can’t wait for next year.
