Modelling international relations at Prep Model United Nations

Mr Matthew Jones, Clayesmore’s MUN Coordinator, writes:

“There was a real sense of buzz in the air on Tuesday afternoon as Clayesmore hosted its third annual  Year 7 MUN event. We welcomed 80 children from eight different schools and, as always, we were mightily impressed by the standard of the debate. The Year 7s had clearly prepared thoroughly and thoughtfully for the debates, which this year centered on the Drilling for Oil in the Arctic, Immunisation and the Rohingya Refugee Crisis.

“The day would not have been able to go ahead without the tireless efforts of our MUN Committee, comprised of 20 hard-working students in Year 10, 11 and 12 who prepared thoroughly for the event and who chaired the rooms and advised the younger children in a kind and supportive manner. We were also ably supported by the Hospitality, Media and Secretariat teams who worked throughout the day to provide a different experience for the participants… Indeed, at what other event could they see themselves in a live ‘breaking news report’ at the end of the day?”

Clayesmore Prep was represented by Year 7  pupils Lara, Sadie, Ben and Thomas, who played the part of Bangladesh and debated some weighty topics, showing great courage in addressing over a hundred delegates and challenging other countries.
