Jess is U18 Eventing National Champion
Year 11 pupil, Jess, was selected for the South West Under 18 eventing team in the summer term. At the end of July she travelled to Freckly Park in Yorkshire for the National Championships. Here she and her mount Irish Aftershock performed well, finishing on the podium as 3rd in a team of 4, and in the individual top 20.
This was followed with qualifiers for the Pony Club National Championships in which Jess gained qualification in the eventing, pure dressage and pure showjumping by winning the eventing and dressage, and placing 4th in the showjumping. They then travelled to Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire for the Championships in August.
Jess reports, “I was absolutely delighted to come away with the National Champion title in Intermediate Eventing! We also placed 6th nationally in the showjumping and 6th in our section for the dressage.” The Portman Pony Club reports: “Jess was our only representative in the 100cm but she and Murphy led from start to finish. It was an absolute delight to watch her and we believe she has achieved what no other Portman member has ever achieved by qualifying for the National Championships in Dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing! It is incredibly hard to be even in the top 10 at Area level in any of these disciplines so to have qualified in more than one is a monumental achievement.” They most certainly did The Portman and themselves proud. It really is a fantastic achievement which is unlikely to be repeated for a very long time.”
Jess’s goal for the year is to be selected for the CCI*U18 South West Team – the highest level for U18 riders.
