Jenny WINS 2019 Wicked Young Writer Awards
We are thrilled to announce that year 8 pupil, Jenny A, has been announced as the winner of the 2019 Wicked Young Writer Award, in the 11-14 category.
Jenny entered the competition through the school with her piece ‘Dying Words’ which struck a cord with Wicked The Musical’s Executive Producer Michael McCabe. Michael said, “Dying Words was outstanding. It shone out to me as exactly what this competition is for.”
The awards are in association with the National Literacy Trust and encourage young people aged 5-25 to use writing as a way of expressing themselves, producing unique and original pieces of prose. There were over 4,500 submissions this year with a rise in entries from individuals and primary schools in the 8-10 age category and the 11-14 age category.
Championed by Patron Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall, Judges included Head Judge Cressida Cowell (Author of How to Train your Dragon), two poets, Inua Ellams and Hussain Manawe, Jonathan Douglas, Director of the National Literacy Trust and Michael McCabe, Executive Producer (UK) of Wicked.
Jenny appeared on Radio Solent this morning to discuss her win. You can listen to her interview here.
