House MUN – a fitting end to another successful year
Clayesmore’s Model United Nations coordinator, Mr Matthew Jones, writes:
“Clayesmore’s busy MUN calendar was rounded off last week with the annual House MUN event in which well over half the remaining pupils were involved in a stimulating day of debating pertinent current issues such as the continuing Israel/Palestine conflict, gun ownership and the reviewing of the Geneva conventions.
“Following an engaging keynotes speech on building relationships and international cooperation by Brigadier Toby Rowland, pupils from all year groups debated as equals across five committees and everybody was really made to engage with and question their views on challenging real-world issues.
“Meanwhile throughout the day delegates were treated to regular refreshments provided by our MUN hospitality team, and were given a taste of life at the BBC thanks to our Media team who interviewed the delegates, produced a well-edited news report and added to the buzz of the day.
“Eventually, after a day of engaging debate it was announced that the delegation of China, represented by Wolverton, were the winners of House MUN 2018. This final event was a fitting end to another successful year of MUN. The committee, strongly led by Tabby and Arthur, has been exceptional and they should be proud of all they both have achieved.”
