Hello to a very special guest at the Prep School’s House Music Competition

Now in its eleventh year, the popular House Music Competition has become firmly established as the first inter-house event of the school year and, this year, took place on the afternoon of Friday 21 October 2016. The Sports Centre was, once again, packed with parents and relatives who came to watch us celebrate the musical life at Clayesmore Prep through the works of Adele – our theme for this year.

We were joined this year by our adjudicator and special guest, Lisa Martin, the UK’s No. 1 Adele Tribute and star of BBC TV’s “Adele at the BBC”, who performed three hits from the “25” album – “Hello”, “Send My Love” and “When We Were Young”. Each house performed a verse and chorus of Skyfall, and then it was over to the House Singing Class – the highlight of the day – which also included a performance by the Nursery and Pre-Prep children and staff.

Both staff and children had been meeting behind closed doors, setting aside a lot of time for the past 3 weeks to perfect a song which had been chosen at random from a selection of songs from this year’s theme. Edwards-Stuarts performed Make You Feel My Love, Seddons sang Chasing Pavements, Rosses Set Fire to the Rain, while Everetts gave the final performance of the afternoon with Someone Like You. To complement the four house performances, the Nursery and Pre-Prep performed the song, Rolling in the Deep.

In the end, Lisa decided that this year’s winners should be Rosses house. I would like to say a huge thankyou to all the staff and children of the nursery, pre-prep and prep school for all their collaboration, support and enthusiasm leading up to and during the competition itself. A superb show of good sportsmanship was shown during the whole competition and all the children are to be especially congratulated for that. Thanks also to our adjudicator and special guest, Lisa Martin, for her fabulous performances, accurate judgement and constructive comments on all counts throughout the competition.

Here’s to next year!!
