Finley at English Hockey Finals

Upper Sixth Former, Finley, represented his club, Bournemouth, in the National Hockey Finals on Saturday 12 May, playing against Marlow Hockey Club.

He was on nearly the full match and played really well, contributing in the centre and making some strong darting runs in attack, as well as defending resolutely, doing both his Club and his School proud. It was an amazing match and Bournemouth played brilliantly, but sadly, victory was snatched from them in the dying minutes, as Marlow won on penalty shuffles.

While disappointing not to win, it was a superb experience for Finley to play at the Olympic Park and be part of the event played under national rules. This makes Bournemouth Hockey Club the second best side in the country this year, having also won the Hampshire Cup in the previous week. Finley contributed also to that victory, as well as playing for the Men’s team afterwards, winning the Senior Hampshire Cup, too.

These championships end Finley’s time as a Bournemouth Hockey Club junior, and what an outstanding venture it has been: selection for the Junior Regional Performance Centre three times and a High Performance Assessment Camp once, winning numerous County Cups and playing in the National Finals twice.
