Exploring opportunities at our Language Symposium
On Friday 5 October we were pleased to host a Language Symposium with guest speakers including university academics and language professionals working for the public sector. Pupils in Clayesmore’s Years 10 and 11, along with visiting language students from other local schools enjoyed a series of talks and workshops covering careers linked to language study, language taster sessions and living and working abroad in Russian, Arabic, Swedish and modern Greek.
One Year 11 pupil, Dominic, made a simple, but insightful comment: ‘It’s all about broadening your personal worldview’. There is no doubt that for many students this event was a step towards that aim and many were inspired to find out more about further study and careers in languages.
This was a great Clayesmore event, the latest in a series of initiatives arranged by the Modern Foreign Languages department aimed at taking the learning of languages beyond the classroom experience. Next on the agenda is our ever popular Languages Live Lounge where pupils will perform music and songs in their choice of language.
