Ed hits the target in GB National qualifiers

Year 12 pupil, Ed, has qualified for the Target Sprint GB National Final in September, following a successful appearance at the latest ranking event at the Yate Outdoor Sports Complex last weekend. This is the more remarkable as Ed only heard about Target Sprint a little over three months ago and was inspired to give the sport a try by a friend.

The competition requires you to run 400m and then shoot five targets, followed by another 400m run and another five targets, before a 400m sprint to the finish. As a member of the school’s CCF and a keen long distance runner, Ed seems to be a natural at the sport. At his first competition he finished 3rd and was contacted by GB sport shooter, Gorgs Geikie, and invited to attend a GB ranking event. Following practice at school with CCF SSI Ian Rockett, Ed secured a place in the top ten nationally which meant he progressed to the final ranking event, where an overall ranking of 8th resulted in his selection for the GB National Final in September, and he now has his sights set on making the GB Junior Mens’ team next year.

Well done, Ed!
