A ‘double-whammy’ weekend of MUN
Mr Matthew Jones, our Model United Nations coordinator, writes about the busy weekend of MUN when Clayesmorians participated in two external conferences in two days:
“Saturday saw two delegations of Year 9 and 10 newcomers travel down to Exeter School MUN. Although the pupils had previously taken part in only small internal training evenings, they did themselves proud, contributing thoughtfully to the debates and challenging pupils with many more years experience than them and debating such important topics as Electoral Fraud, Child Poverty and Emissions Trading. Everyone really enjoyed their day, and we were delighted that Dominic (Y10) was awarded second place in the Economic and Political Committee.
“The following day five of our more senior MUN participants travelled to Bristol Grammar School MUN. This was the first time Clayesmore had sent a delegation to the event, and the students enjoyed the challenge of participating in a large conference of more than 250 delegates. The pupils did a great job of representing Nigeria, and Magnus (Y10) thoroughly deserved his third place in the Environment and Technology room.
“There’s a lot more MUN in the Clayesmore calendar…so which this space!”
