Cross Country runners brave snow showers at the English Schools Nationals

Mr Chris Humpage, Clayesmore’s Sports Events Manager, describes the trip to the English Schools Cross Country Championships in Leeds:

“On the way up on Friday, we had a nice stay at the National Watersports Centre – along with the Cambridge University and Yale University boat crews – with a run round the regatta course to loosen up. There were mini snow blizzards on and off throughout the race day itself and it was truly cold. The course was non-stop up and down, and one of the hardest races I’ve been at!”

Our runners fared admirably among the hundreds of runners from across the 46 counties in England. The full results were:

Josh S Y9 (Junior Boys) 149th & 1st Dorset runner
Conor Y11 (Intermediate Boys) 276th & 6th Dorset runner
Alex Y12 (Senior Boys) 174th & 4th Dorset runner
Angus Y12 (Senior Boys) 243rd & 6th Dorset runner
Ed D Y13 (Senior Boys) 292nd & 8th Dorset runner

Amy Y11 (Intermediate Girls) 131st & 2nd Dorset runner
Elsa Y12 (Senior Girls) 295th & 8th Dorset runner

Says Chris Humpage: “Despite two days away, a five-hour drive to Leeds and back, the weather and course horrors, it was a great trip and a positive experience for all.”
