CPS U13 team are County Cricket Champions
Clayesmore Prep’s Head of Boys’ Games, Mr Tom Manley, gives us the low-down on a thrilling end of season victory for our U13 team:
“Clayesmore won the U13 County Cup on Tuesday 27th June in a weather affected game at Broadstone Cricket Club. Clayesmore won four fixtures in total to become County Champions.
1st Round v Winton Academy. Clayesmore won by 3 wickets. The team showed a lot of character in this fixture, it looked like at one stage that we would struggle to reach Winton’s target however Charlie S came in and smashed a quick fire 25 runs which meant Clayesmore won with two balls to spare.
Quarter Final v Sherbrone Prep. Clayesmore won by 88 runs. This win was set up by a record Prep School partnership of 183 from Edward R (51) and Toby B (108). This took the wind out of Sherborne’s sails as they never really got close to the target.
Semi Final v Highcliffe. Clayesmore won by 63 runs. A superb bowling performance set up this victory, Clayesmore bowled Highcliffe out for 44 with Toby B taking a fifer.
Final v Poole Grammar. Due to the bad weather this game had to be reduced in overs. Poole Grammar batted first and hit 54-3 off their 8 overs, Edward R (21) and Austin A (30) knocked off this total without losing a wicket in 5.3 overs for Clayesmore to take the title.”
Mr Manley thanked all the boys for their hard work and dedication to cricket this term, stating, “you have all contributed to a very successful season and you thoroughly deserve the accolade of U13 Dorset County Champions”.
Well done to the squad.
