On Cloud Wine!
OC Joe Fear and wife Becky have always had a passion for good food and wine, and decided to set up Breezy Ridge Vineyard in Melbury Abbas initially as a hobby. They wanted to make fantastic English wine right here in the rolling hills of North Dorset.
The vineyard was planted in 2014, and over time has become well established across the glorious 3.5 acre site, producing 6000+ bottles last year.
The hobby has certainly escalated and has been no mean feat with busy jobs in Financial Services and Property Developing, and with 2 small boys and a baby on the way. However, the project continues to be a labour of love, with the added benefit of a glass of something chilled at the end of it!
Work at the vineyard is well and truly a family affair, with Dexter and Harry, both at Clayesmore Nursery, helping out with harvest and other important jobs.
The vineyard produces different varieties of English sparking wines using traditional methods, and organic principles throughout.
But as Becky says ‘The basis of our product’s success comes down to the good quality ripe fruit!’ Hopefully the weather we’ve been having will produce a good harvest later on in the year.
A visitor centre is currently being built with an expected launch later in 2020.
They intend to partner with local producers of cheese and other artisan food to create a great place to have a glass of delicious English wine and tapas.
We wish you every success, and look forward to sharing more details about this exciting venture when it’s ready to open.
