Clayesmore’s run on Cross-Country success continues
Our cross-country runners carried on their impressive track record at the South West Schools Cross-Country Championships in Truro, Cornwall on Saturday. Seven of our runners, one of them from the Prep school, had been selected to represent Dorset at the regionals, and based on their stellar performance, we now stand to send six Clayesmore runners to the English Schools Championships. Mr Chris Humpage, Director of Sports and Enterprises, writes:
We travelled down on the morning in lovely weather, but it wasn’t to last! Bodmin Moor proved to be a divider for good and bad weather and the torrential rain started after our Senior Boys’ race in the early afternoon. It is a considerable achievement in itself to be picked for a county team, and our runners did very well. The individual results were:
Edward, Year 7: 17th in Minor Boys and 3rd Dorset runner
Amy, Year 10: 21st in Intermediate Girls (U17) and 5th Dorset runner
Alex, Year 11: 21st in Intermediate Boys (U17) and 2nd Dorset runner
Ruben, Year 10: 36th in in Intermediate Boys (U17) and 4th Dorset runner
Conor, Year 10: 61st in in Intermediate Boys (U17) and 10th Dorset runner
James, Year 12: 45th in Senior Boys (U19) and 5th Dorset runner
Ed, Year 13: 56th in Senior Boys (U19) and 8th Dorset runner
Amy, Alex, Ruben and James claimed their places at the English Schools Championships to be held in Norwich in mid-March, amongst the eight Dorset runners in the national competition. Minor runners do not progress to this final stage, so Edward will not run in Norwich, but Ed and Conor are senior and intermediate boys’ reserves, respectively.
Well done to all of our runners, and especially so for managing such good results in abysmal weather conditions!
