Clayesmore’s Classicists perform at Latin Spelling Bee

Latin Spelling

Clayesmore’s Head of Latin, Sinéad Symons, writes about Clayesmore’s performance in a recent Latin competition

On the 14 March, seven Year 9 students competed against schools from across the south of England in the 3rd Annual Latin Spelling Bee held at Harris Academy, Chafford Hundred. Students from seventeen schools competed for the honour of gaining both individual and team prizes. The atmosphere was tense and exciting from the start. The teams participated in a number of challenges which involved listening, visual, written and translation tasks from Latin into English and English into Latin. Clayesmore performed exceptionally well, coming fifth overall and there were some stand out performances by Tasmin and Jasper who were the highest individual scorers in the team.

The students thoroughly relished the opportunity to show off their skills and meet other keen, young Classicists!
