Commendations at ECMUN

A group of Clayesmore students battled the wet weather to take part in a Model United Nations conference hosted at Exeter College last weekend. MUN Co-ordinator Mr Matthew Jones writes:
“Clayesmore’s two delegations were comprised of Year 11 and 12 pupils, who debated from the view points of Spain and Russian. At the forum the team tackled topics as diverse as ‘Rights of the Roma in the Balkans’, ‘The Automation of Industry’ and ‘Air Pollution in South East Asia’. Despite the relative lack of time to prepare, the group drafted some strong clauses and debated with the usual thoughtfulness and aplomb which I have come to expect. For example, despite becoming the protagonists of the (three-hour marathon length) General Assembly, the Russian delegation managed to hold their own at the end of a long day’s debate.
To top off a long but enjoyable day for the students, the team was awarded with a ‘bumper’ prize haul… with 9 of the 12 delegates a commended or highly commended award.”
