Clayesmore pupils progress through rounds in Road to Wimbledon Competition
Clayesmore has once again entered into the national LTA Road to Wimbledon Competition, and this week some 27 pupils from Years 8 and 9 took part in the school heat of the competition for U14s. The main aim of the tournament is for players to enjoy competitive match play experience, which will then encourage them to compete in more competitions. Road to Wimbledon is the biggest junior tournament in British tennis and gives U14 players the opportunity to compete on the world famous grass courts at Wimbledon, over 800 clubs and schools compete annually.
The school’s heats were closely fought, with the girls’ final won by Hope and the boys’ final won by Florian, after some very closely fought matches in the round robin stages. The finalists will now have the opportunity to play in the County finals in July and we wish them luck in the next stage of the competition.
