Clayesmore Prep’s PopFest steals the show from Glastonbury

The Prep School’s Music Teacher, Mrs Judy Coplan, writes:

Coinciding as it did with Glastonbury, PopFest 2017 brought sunshine, fun and a cool festival vibe to Clayesmore on the last Friday of the summer term. This open air event, previously known as ‘Battle of the Bands’, played to an appreciative audience of children and staff in the music courtyard and was the perfect way to enjoy a warm June afternoon. Nearly every member of Year 8 was involved in the fast-paced hour-long show which featured fifteen musical performances and was expertly compered by Tallulah and Toby.

The first set showcased nine original songs composed in class music lessons during the term. Particularly impressive was the fact that the majority of these items were also performed entirely by the pupils with no adult help, a real sign of the musical strength and confidence of this year group. The ‘covers set’ was also hugely enjoyable with items ranging from Buddy Holly and Bon Jovi, through to Sam Smith and SmashMouth. The Year 8 boys all supported Bertie’s committed rendition of ‘Paradise’ by Coldplay, before the girls gave us a memorable final performance of Ben E King’s ‘Stand By Me’.

Thanks must go to Mr Walker for his invaluable musical and technical work on this production, and massive congratulations to every member of Year 8 involved. PopFest 2017 was certainly an occasion to remember.
