Physical Development

Physical development is as vital to a child as the core skills of numeracy and literacy, and at Clayesmore there is an enormous emphasis on its importance in a child’s education.

Through team games, gymnastics, dance and swimming we endeavour to instil a love of physical activity and the challenges that go with it. We celebrate the fun of playing team games, the thrill of winning and the satisfaction of achievement, and as with all areas of our curriculum, the children are treated as individuals and allowed to learn at their pace.

Children learn to swim during weekly timetabled sessions from the age of 2½ onwards in our own heated indoor pool. Swimming coaching is provided by our renowned and highly experienced swim staff, who pay attention to the individual child, as with everything at Clayesmore.

Games and PE lessons are timetabled in the school day twice weekly, and the specialist sports teachers take great care of the children’s physical progression. There are opportunities throughout the year to celebrate growing talent, such as the Pre-Prep Sports Day, but at times the children join in with the Prep school children, which our very young children enjoy hugely.

Apart from the curriculum time allocated to all areas of physical education, we offer an exciting array of daily after school clubs that include football, tag rugby, hockey, basketball, cricket, tennis, dance and gymnastics. Weekly Ballet lessons are also available.
