Outdoor Education

Our children are surrounded by Clayesmore’s outstanding grounds with 62 acres of parkland, lake, woodland and grass fields at their doorstep, all perfect resources for nature rambles, animal tracking, wildlife watching, pond dipping and gardening.

One of the key features of our curriculum is our weekly forest school. The children spend a morning or afternoon every week in our beautiful ‘Beech Walk’ woodland next door to the Pre-Prep. Guided by our specialist forest school teacher and assisted by our staff, the children learn all about life outdoors from keeping safe and healthy, the skills of survival, how best to make a shelter or den, plants which are edible and those to avoid, wildlife identification, forest art, outdoor cooking, tool making, team games, and generally how to have a great deal of fun!

In addition to visiting the woods and wildlife offered at Clayesmore, we also go on trips to nearby woodlands to compare and contrast what we have at school. Also, being so close to the coast allows us to experience ‘Beach School’; an extremely enjoyable day where we are guided by a ‘Beach School’ expert on all things coastal.

The benefits of our outdoor learning opportunities are countless and each child has an opportunity to safely learn, collaborate, grow in confidence and challenge themselves outside of the traditional classroom environment. The results we see in our children are outstanding.
