Clayesmore Cryptologists: working together to Crack the Code

It’s all very hush, hush, but the first meeting of C3 (Clayesmore’s Code Crackers) was held recently in the Maths department, as the team got together to work on the National Cipher Challenge – Fighting Gravity. The challenge is a nationwide, online code-breaking competition run by the University of Southampton’s Mathematics Department, which runs from October until January. Our team is led by year 12 pupil, Will Davies, and features representatives from all houses and years 9-12 at the school. The first session saw them work together to crack the first two codes (a Caesar shift) and make plans for future weeks and forms part of our Maths extension programme.
