Clayesmore crowned County Champions at County Swimming Finals
Eight areas of Dorset (North Dorset, East Dorset, West Dorset, Weyport, Christchurch, Poole, Bournemouth, Purbeck) competed at the year 5 and 6 County Swimming finals on 15 June, following the regional rounds held last term.
240 pupils competed and the competition was very close with the standard of swimming extremely high! Eleven Clayesmore Year 5 and 6 pupils represented North Dorset, together with swimmers from other local primary schools in our area.
Our pupils really enjoyed the gala and had excellent results! Their performances on the night certainly added to the strength of the North Dorset Team.
Year 5 Boys
Cody, Rafael, Matthew, Wilf made the team for the Freestyle Relay and Rafael, Ned, Cody, Matthew for the Mixed Stroke Relay. The boys had tough competition but in the Freestyle Relay Rafael swam with so much determination to win that he touched 1st a second ahead of the team from Poole. Matthew did the same in the Mixed Stroke and again the team took Gold! Cody competed individually representing North Dorset in the 25 metres Butterfly. Cody was disappointed with his start but still came 2 nd ! A brilliant result for Cody. Bertie has only been competing for two terms so to race at the finals was a huge occasion for him. He had no expectations and was just so pleased to be part of the team. Bertie had a nervous start but soon found his rhythm and swam a very powerful race. The strength is certainly in his kick! Bertie was out in front with the swimmer who came 1st and touched in 2nd place. Well done Bertie and a great way to celebrate your birthday on the night!
Year 6 Boys
Emily & Georgia were joined by two other year 6 girls from the North Dorset team and won both the Freestyle and Mixed Stroke Relays. Georgia swam with such confidence and Emily’s Front crawl in both relays was really strong and powerful.Georgia competed in the 50 metres Breaststroke and won for the second year running. Alex, Thomas & Daniel were also joined by two Year 6 boys from the team to make up their relays. Unfortunately the team were not placed but they all swam improved split times. Alex had a good start in his Butterfly race and swam an improved time from the regionals. Alex’s strength is his racing dive and with a push off in the water Alex was unable to take advantage of this.
Overall North Dorset came 1st and were crowned County Champions. North Dorset has never won the finals before so it was an even bigger celebration for the whole team. On top of all the gold medals and being crowned Dorset County Champions our team also broke two individual school records:
