Clayesmore Chemists demonstrate chemiluminescence at Symposium

Luminescent demonstration by Lower Sixth Formers Tabitha and Sam at the Chemistry Symposium, Monday 29 January.

Sixth Form chemists attended a chemistry symposium in Sherborne on Monday evening, where Year 12 students, Tabitha R and Sam C, presented for Clayesmore. They spoke on the topic of chemical reactions that give off light, known as chemiluminescence, and how this is applied in forensic science and imaging.

“They prepared a spectacular luminescent demonstration,” says Clayesmore’s Head of Chemistry, Dr Jonathon Gammon. “Despite some technical difficulties accessing their presentation online they gave an outstanding presentation and the staff from other schools commented on how impressive they were.”
