Charging through the Chalke Valley Challenge

One of our Cross Country coaches, Mrs Dorey, reports:

“17 pupils and 4 members of staff from the Clayesmore Cross Country squad turned up on a beautiful Sunday morning to take on the Challenge of the Chalke Valley. There were two categories of entry – the 3km for under 16 year olds, and the 10km, and we had some good runners in both. After a hearty warm up dance to some rather loud, upbeat music, which left many out of breath, the 10km race got under way. The course followed quiet roads through beautiful countryside, although it was agreed that there were far too many hills for our liking. Despite setting off in the sunshine, the heavens opened at about the 8 km mark and the finish line was a mess of soggy runners.

All those who took park came back on a high and it was decided that it was a great way to spend a Sunday morning. Congratulations must go to Elsa and Fred (both year 11) who came 2nd in the Girls Under 16 category and 3rd in the Boys Under 16 category respectively. We also had some fantastic results in the Men’s category, with Alex and Ruben, both under 16 but choosing to run up a group, coming in 4th and 5th overall.”
