A triumph for Eleanor
We recently heard that Eleanor James (Wolverton, 2016) graduated from the University of St Mark & St John (Marjon), Plymouth, with a First Class BSc Honours Degree in Sport, Physical Activity & Health.
Mother, Jacqui, wrote to tell us:
“Eleanor arrived at Clayesmore at the beginning of Year 7, struggling to read and write and close to giving up on academic subjects but, with support and encouragement, she gradually developed the skills and resilience needed to study independently at university.
“Eleanor made the most of her time there: she was praised for her ability to communicate through the written word (not bad for someone with dyslexia) and she learned to surf and play water polo – captaining the team in her third year.
“But crucially, she played a leading role in running recuperation clinics for post-cancer-treatment and post-back-operation patients. Her dissertation was based on these clinics and her efforts were recognised with the university’s Inspirational Student Award for community volunteering.
“We would like to thank Clayesmore for persevering in encouraging Eleanor to go to university, when she thought it was beyond her, and persuading her to go to an open day at Marjon, where she flourished. I would recommend that Sixth Formers who aren’t sure they are university material consider it, as it is small and welcoming, where students are not lost in the crowd and are nurtured.”
Very much like Clayesmore, then… Well done, Eleanor!
