Germaine Greer, Wendy Cope and Roman Krznaric provided food for thought for pupils, staff and guests at Clayesmore’s second one day literary festival this week. The day’s proceedings kicked off with cultural thinker and historian Roman Krznaric whose talk on lesser-known characters from history and what they can teach us about modern living was inspiring and prompted high sales of his book at lunchtime. A question and answer session was followed by icon and academic Professor Germaine Greer who set out to prove that Ann Hathaway made Shakespeare the man he was and certainly did not disappoint. The day was rounded off with a poetry reading by Wendy Cope over afternoon tea who was punchy, self-assured and gritty.
