- Resource Management – With special reference to the management of food resources and related issues. Resources, provision; selection and purchase of food and household goods; food preparation and cooking equipment; food safety and hygiene.

AS 2 × 1½ hour examinations (2 × 50%) – leading to AS level
Further information
Both papers consist of structured questions linked by a common theme provided by a stimulus. Other questions require either a short response or a longer response in continuous prose. It is not essential to have done Home Economics GCSE to do A Level but of course it does help. It would suit those who have done well at English GCSE. There is a fair amount of reading and writing involved, but the best qualification of all is to have an enquiring mind and obvious enjoyment of the subject.
AS level Home Economics develops critical understanding of the issues that affect households and families, poverty, employment, homelessness, health, management of resources, food provision, financial awareness, purchasing and consumer rights. Awareness of spiritual, moral, ethical, social, legislative, economic and cultural issues are also developed.
Not only will you be able to develop an interest in Home Economics but you will learn valuable skills for life. This subject is an excellent preparation for pupils wishing to pursue a career in nutrition, food science, sports science, food technology, and consumer protection.
