Design & Technology

In the Clayesmore Design and Technology Department we are keen to enable our pupils to become creative young designers who are up for the challenge of generating beautifully thought out concepts. Of course things don’t stop there and it is an essential outcome that our pupils also have the skills to realise their ideas by manufacturing them with precision and to a high quality finish.

We provide first-rate teaching in up-to-date, well-equipped facilities. Our excellent Design Studio has a full set of computers, interactive whiteboards and our pupils use professional Desktop Publishing and advanced Computer Aided Design software in addition to traditional drawing skills, to communicate and develop their ideas and knowledge. Computer Aided Manufacture facilities can also be found here in the form of a much used Laser Cutter and a large Vinyl Cutter/Plotter.

There is little that we cannot achieve in our workshops which offer a wide range of manufacturing opportunities in wood, plastics, metal and composites and the department likes to stay open most lunchtimes and evenings for all the pupils.

Every year groups enjoy access to these facilities and we offer GCSE Graphics and Resistant Materials which both lead on to the very well subscribed to Product Design A- Level course. All are very popular and provide an excellent basis for further academic study as well as the many closely associated design or technologically centred careers like architecture or engineering.
