Pre-Prep Years

If a child is secure, happy and motivated, they will learn in the most positive way. School is a place to come to experiment, explore, make friends and enjoy every day.

At Clayesmore, we offer each child the opportunity to access a broad curriculum with experienced, specialist staff who organise lessons and activities to take full advantage of the excellent facilities available throughout the year. This enables all of the pupils to find their strengths and to excel in many different areas, building up confidence, pride and self-esteem.

Our after school clubs, which are free of charge, are available every evening to all and include many creative, musical and physical activities.

Small class sizes and high staff/pupil ratio ensures that all children receive individual attention and can develop their literacy and numeracy skills at a pace that is right for them, so that they can achieve without pressure. We hear the children read every day and we can tailor reading programmes to match their individual needs and abilities. Some children will achieve higher than expected levels in reading and number work, but all of them will have acquired a sound base in these skills by the time they leave the Pre-Prep.

Alongside these skills we also place a great deal of emphasis on building confidence by offering a wide and exciting range of creative and physical opportunities.

During the Reception year all of the children work towards completing the Early learning goals of the Foundation Stage and aim to begin working within Key Stage one. In years 1 and 2 the curriculum follows the National Numeracy and Literacy Strategies and QCA guidelines. However, here at Clayesmore we have the advantage of using the good practice from these documents and alongside this developing knowledge and understanding through the diverse curriculum. We believe this provides a more inspirational and stimulating learning environment.
